Terms of Service
Last updated 20 September 2026
These are the rules for using Ding Dong Messenger. By creating an account you agree to them. They are short on purpose, because rules nobody reads protect nobody.
The short version. You must be 13 or older. Be decent to people. Do not harass anybody, do not send sexual content involving minors, and do not use Ding Dong to break the law. We have zero tolerance for abusive behaviour and for objectionable content, and we will remove accounts that engage in it. You can report anybody and block anybody, from inside the app.
1. Who can use Ding Dong
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. By signing up you confirm that you are.
You are responsible for what happens on your account, so keep your password to yourself. If you think somebody else has got into your account, change your password in Settings and email us.
2. Zero tolerance for abuse and objectionable content
This section is the heart of these Terms, and we enforce it.
You may not use Ding Dong to:
- harass, bully, threaten, intimidate or stalk anybody;
- send or ask for sexual content involving anybody under 18, in any form. We report child sexual abuse material to the authorities;
- send sexual content to somebody who has not asked for it;
- post hate speech, or attack people for their race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender, sexual orientation or national origin;
- encourage anybody to hurt themselves, or glorify self-harm or suicide;
- threaten or promote violence, or promote a violent or hateful group;
- share somebody's private information without their permission;
- impersonate somebody else;
- share content you have no right to share;
- break the law, or help anybody else break it;
- send spam, or attempt to get around rate limits, blocks or bans;
- attack, probe or attempt to break the service or anybody's account.
There is no warning quota. An account used for any of the above may be suspended or removed immediately and without notice. Where content involves a child, we act on it and we involve the authorities.
3. Reporting and blocking
Every person and every message in Ding Dong can be reported from inside the app. Reports reach us directly and we review them.
You can also block anybody. Blocking is deliberately invisible to the person blocked: they are not told, and they cannot tell the difference between being blocked and the account never having existed. This is so that blocking somebody does not provoke them.
If somebody is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. We are not an emergency service.
4. How people reach you
Ding Dong has no user search and no directory. People can only reach you if you give them your handle or an invite code, and even then they can only send a request, which you read before you accept. This is a deliberate design choice and not a feature we intend to remove.
5. Your content
What you write stays yours. We do not claim ownership of your messages.
You do give us permission to store your messages and pass them to the people you sent them to โ which is simply what it means for a messaging app to work. We do not use your messages to train anything, we do not sell them, and we do not show them to advertisers.
You are responsible for what you send. Please remember that the people you send things to can screenshot, copy or repeat them, which is true of every messaging app there has ever been.
6. Things we may do
- We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these Terms.
- We may remove content that breaks these Terms.
- We may change or stop parts of the service. If we are going to stop something that matters, we will try to tell you first.
- We may update these Terms. If we do, we will change the date at the top of this page, and we will tell you in the app if the change is significant.
7. Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time, from Settings inside the app. You do not need to ask us and you do not need to give a reason. What happens to your information when you do is described in the Privacy Policy.
8. No warranty
Ding Dong is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it running and to keep it safe, but we cannot promise it will never be unavailable, never lose a message, or never contain a bug. We do not promise that the service will meet every requirement you have for it.
9. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential damages arising out of your use of Ding Dong โ including lost messages, lost data, or things somebody else said to you through the service.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot legally be limited, and some places do not allow the exclusions above, in which case they do not apply to you.
10. Disputes
If something has gone wrong, please email us first at support@dingdongusa.com. Nearly everything is quicker to fix that way, and we would rather fix it than argue about it.
Ding Dong Messenger is operated from the State of California, in the United States. These Terms, and any dispute arising out of them or out of your use of Ding Dong, are governed by the laws of the State of California and the applicable laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute that email cannot settle will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you agree that those courts may hear it.
If you are using Ding Dong from somewhere else, this does not take away any right you have under the law where you live that cannot be given up by agreement.
